Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement by the person it was created for)

The magical masks created by Linowan shamans are each created for a specific task and a specific person. The person who wears the mask must participate in its creation, and must do so with the assistance of a Linowan shaman, who will only create a mask for someone who has displayed great valor or a feat of skill for the Linowan people.

It is only possible to attune to one Linowan Mask at any given time; while a few singularly impressive individuals have owned multiple masks created for them, attuning to a new mask permanently ends attunement to the previous one. The previous mask cannot ever be attuned to again, although it still registers as a magic item to spells such as detect magic or identify. (identify will reveal the name of the person capable of attuning to the mask, though no other identifying information about them.)

While attuned to a Linowan Mask and wearing it, you gain proficiency in a skill (decided at the time of the mask's creation), and you can add twice your proficiency bonus to ability checks with that skill, though this bonus does not stack with features such as Expertise. The ability score normally associated with that skill is increased by 1, and your maximum for that ability score is also increased by 1.

Finally, wearing or displaying a Linowan Mask (even if it is not attuned) is recognizable and significant to both Linowan and Haltan people. At the DM's discretion, you may gain bonuses or penalties to social interactions as a result.
