Homebrew:Bulb of Demise and Renewal
Wondrous item, uncommon
A simple plant bulb the size of a child's fist, this piece of Dragonborn plant technology is designed to get rid of the bodies of the dead.
Place the bulb in the mouth or the interior of the abdomen of a corpse, and it will grow roots throughout the body over the course of 12 hours. Within 25 hours, the whole body will decompose and a stalk of brightly-colored flowers will grow above a body-shaped mass of roots. The fragrant blossoms will last for one week before the whole plant withers; among the roots will be 1d3 new Bulbs of Demise and Renewal. Deceased whose bodies are consumed by this item will not rise as hungry ghosts, and their souls travel instantly to Lethe to rejoin the cycle of reincarnation.
A bulb can also be placed in a living body, where it will have the same effect, so long as the person does not remove the bulb from their body. The effect is the same except that the person will die at the end of the first 12 hours. They will also suffer extreme pain during that time. This is a popular method of torture and execution among certain tribes of barbarians.
During the First Age, these were a popular method of disposing of bodies. In the Second Age, they can only be found in Sijan and certain areas of the southeastern jungles.
