Message in a Bottle:Neuro imprint

Neuro imprints are digital records of people's minds. The process of recording an imprint is non-destructive, and the original people who recorded their memories into the Forerunner probe would have gone on to live out the rest of their lives on Earth or its surrounding star system as normal. Of course, only the knowledge and experiences up until the moment of recording the imprint can be recalled by you now.

Neuro imprints are implanted into a bio sleeve at the last step in the process (this allows Forerunner to ensure there is nothing faulty with the body before entrusting it with a mind).

Duplicates

Forerunner will avoid printing duplicates of any given imprint unless the individual's skills are needed for the mission and Forerunner believes the first version of the individual printed has died. Once Forerunner begins populating the colony instead of simply managing an expedition team, it will refuse to create any further duplicates of any stored imprints, even in the case of death. As tragic as death is, it is the inevitable conclusion of life, and individuals seeing copies of themselves walking around is likely to reduce morale and therefore hampers mission success.

(OOC: If your PC should die and you wish to continue playing the same character as a duplicate created by Forerunner, be warned that the duplicate character will be decanted back at level 2, as though you had just created the character. Alternatively, the player characters are not the only members of the expedition team, so you could have a different character in a different role. In a world of magic, resurrection is also on the table.)

Recording new imprints

Generally speaking, Forerunner will refuse to make new records for individuals it already has an imprint of. Given sufficient neural divergence from the stored imprint, it's permissible to overwrite a person's imprint with a new one, and this will mostly be used after the colony is successful and Forerunner prepares for the next mission. That said, extenuating circumstances are possible, and the Expedition Leader or Colonial Governor has authority to order Forerunner to create a new imprint, even if it's of an individual who already has an imprint stored and even if there is little divergence from the original imprint. Imprinting requires a living mind, however, so the Expedition Leader could not use this as a means of resurrection via technological means.
